Basilica of Bom Jesus

Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is a Catholic church, which attracts millions of tourists annually. Interestingly, it also has preserved the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Moreover, this Jesuit church is also the first minor church in India. It flaunts Baroque and Portuguese colonial architectural style and also displays some Corinthian and Doric works. Additionally, there are tiny, ornate Latin and Portuguese inscriptions carved onto the gilded pillars, walls, and altar of the church. Although some parts of the church are in ruins today, it still hasn’t lost its old-era charm and its unique design captivates visitors.

Se Cathedral

This 16th-century edifice is the cathedral of the Latin Church Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and is part of the World Heritage Site. The cathedral was built to commemorate the heroic victory of the Portuguese army over the Muslim invaders. Since the day of the victory happened to be the feast of Saint Catherine, the church was later dedicated to her. The construction of the Iberian-style church began in 1562 during the reign of King Dom Sebastiao and was completed in 1619. Initially, it had two towers, one of which collapsed and was never rebuilt. Today, visitors admire and appreciate the gilded altars, and rich paintings adorning the walls.

Wax World Museum

It is one of the popular places to visit in Goa. This large wax museum flaunts an extensive collection of 30 life-size paraffin sculptures. The most famous personalities include Mahatma Gandhi, Vasco Da Gama, Einstein, and Mother Teresa. However, the star attraction of the museum is Jesus Christ’s ‘Last Supper’. This wondrous piece of the creation is sure to leave you fascinated. You must pay a small entry fee and if you want to bring your camera for photography, then make a camera pass beforehand. Pick up a small souvenir from the small gift shop in the museum.

Archaeological Museum

Goa’s Archeological Museum was established in 1964, and houses artifacts from prehistoric, early historic, and late medieval periods. It also houses wooden sculptures, portraits, ornate pillars, postal stamp collections, and other historic and prominent relics from the Portuguese era. Though there are thousands of objects and artifacts available on display, its most prominent attraction is John, the baptist, a Wooden statue, and sculpture showing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and a bronze statue of Goa’s first governor.
